What was your OSINT highlight of 2021?

Saying to myself “what does this do” when I saw a link on a contact list during an engagement. The link turned out to be an Excel document with the name, address, mobile numbers and emails of regional managers across the US. So click everything!!!

Deepfake technology has really taken off in 2021. The technology is growing faster than we are able to detect it. With facial recognition having the ability to unlock our cell phones. I believe it is just a matter of time before deepfake videos are created for web meetings and video calls in a new form of vishing.

Any favorite tool or technique that you tried in 2021?

Favicon Hash searches.

How do you see the OSINT landscape changing in 2022?

More and more all in one automated tools for executing code and gathering information. Less time will be spent on gathering the data but more time on finding pivot points.

Do you have a blog / Twitter account / Company that you’d like to share with the community?

QOMPLX has an awesome Intelligence team that is really going the extra distance and taking the time to develop some great tools for information gathering.
