What was your OSINT highlight of 2021?
A greater uptake in the value of OSINT across public & private sectors to support intelligence based decision making, and the fostering of stronger public-private partnership to work more effectively in this space given the dynamic nature of the PAI environment.
What emerging (good or bad) trends did you notice over the past year?
A good trend is the start of focusing on OSINT for Good as an idea across the community. Whilst there is no formal ethical framework, we have always anchored our work on moral and ethical conduct, and seeing that theme echo across other industry partners through to individual community members is positive to see.
Any favorite tool or technique that you tried in 2021?
Geo locating without geo-tagged markers has been a favorite technique for 2021.
Secondly, a greater understanding and investment in verification & validation of information to combat disinformation actors & misinformation spread.
How do you see the OSINT landscape changing in 2022?
Accountability of vendors & service providers with alignment to ethical conduct.
